MICROBUSINESS SUCCESS

Several of our microbusiness initiatives in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, have already yielded inspiring results. By providing essential startup materials and equipment, we have empowered women to take control of their livelihoods and provide for their families in dignified, sustainable ways. Two women, for example, are thriving as injera bakers, producing and selling this staple bread to their communities. Their businesses have not only created steady income but have also given them a renewed sense of purpose and self-reliance.

Others have found success in different ventures. Two women have established café stands where they brew and sell fresh coffee throughout the day, tapping into Ethiopia’s rich coffee culture. Another woman has become known for her delicious hot chips, offering golden French fries to eager customers. Additionally, by providing a washing machine and necessary supplies, we enabled one woman to launch a laundry service, filling a critical need in her neighborhood. In each case, our support replaces the desperation of begging or exploitative alternatives with real, sustainable opportunities—helping these women feed themselves and their children with dignity and hope.
