OUR STORY

2005 — 2007
OUR ROOTS: WATER WELLS & HUMANITARIAN AID
At our inception, The Ephraim Project partnered with House of Israel International (HIIM) to bring hope and transformation to generations of impoverished families living in the mountainous regions of Gondar, Ethiopia through a water program. Ethiopian nationals were hired to dig 17 freshwater wells to serve Ethiopian Jewish villages. The wells were strategically placed, making them accessible to Coptic Christians and Muslims in the region as well.

THE JESUS FILM: BRINGING THE "LIVING WATER"
Previously, villagers had to walk miles every day for water. However, the water they used for cooking, bathing, and household chores was stagnant and contaminated since it was the same water used to water animals. The wells not only provided life-sustaining water that dramatically improved daily living conditions but also created an opportunity to introduce the “Living Water,” Jesus Christ, to these isolated communities through CRU’s Jesus Film, based on the Gospel of Luke.

VISITING BETA
ISRAEL VILLAGES
We also met with village elders to deliver urgently needed cash to buy food for families for the winter season, then shipped a 40-foot container filled with all manner of humanitarian aid. We provided medicine, medical supplies and equipment, and generators for Gondar’s regional hospital, as well as hygiene supplies and blankets for Ethiopia’s central prison system and clothing, shoes, blankets, school essentials, computers, electronics, and toys for a local school. In addition to our work in Ethiopia, we dispatched a humanitarian container to Liberia, filling it with clothing, shoes, hygiene supplies, school supplies, educational materials, and books.

RESTORING HOPE.
RESTORING LIVES.
The Ephraim Project launched Project NewStart in 2007 to feed and clothe Orlando’s homeless families and help them transition from the streets to safe emergency shelters, transitional housing, or permanent homes. When court rulings made it illegal to feed homeless families in parks, we partnered with St. George Orthodox Church to use its downtown Orlando parking lot. There, by God’s grace, we incubated the St. George Serving Center, where we coordinated more than 14 FoodShare groups over the years—some of which eventually moved to serve in other parts of the city.

2007 — 2020
PROVIDING FREE
MEDICAL CARE
With the generous support of local businesses like Bontan Medical and Black Diamond Medical, as well as the Advent Health Nursing Program—which provided free medical care to those we served—our efforts quickly grew. Every Friday, we were joined by dozens of passionate volunteers, additional local businesses, and area churches. Together, we made a meaningful difference by providing food, clothing, and shelter to homeless men, women, and children.

PREPARING
NUTRITIOUS MEALS
First Alliance Church provided pantry space to store food from local food banks and access to its kitchen to prepare our weekly nutritious meals. Funding from St. Stephen Protomartyr Orthodox, supplemented by ongoing in-kind donations from New Destiny Christian Center and Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, enabled us to expand our feeding operations and deliver non-perishable groceries to inner-city neighborhoods.

2007 — 2020
PROVIDING CLOTHES &
OTHER NECESSITIES
Downtown Baptist Church opened a 30,000-square-foot facility adjacent to the main building, allowing us to create a 14-room distribution center (“clothing closet”) that offered poor and homeless individuals and families access—twice a week—to free clothing and shoes for all ages, hygiene supplies, blankets, sheets, pillows, furniture, and household goods. For those who could not make it to the clothing closet, we also distributed these items on St. George's parking lot.

2007 — 2020
HOUSING THE HOMELESS
Beyond meals, free haircuts, and clothing and hygiene distribution on Fridays at St. George, our cars and vans served as “mobile offices” on other weekdays, where we offered job assistance, public and private transportation, medical and dental prescription fulfillment, mail delivery service, storage service, and other vital support to help individuals and families reclaim their lives and move from the streets to stable housing. When needed, we helped relocate people to cities where secure jobs or housing awaited them. Through temporary, transitional, and permanent housing assistance, we gave hundreds of Orlando families a genuine opportunity for a fresh start.

2007 — 2020
FEEDING THE HUNGRY
Between 2016 and 2020, The Ephraim Project partnered with Emmanuel’s Kitchen and a network of 42 Christian and parachurch organizations, along with one regional food chain and more than 40 restaurants, to provide weekly meals to tens of thousands of impoverished and homeless men, women, and children in 17 cities across Central and South Florida. Together, we became living proof that Christ’s love—amplified by many hearts—can transform entire cities and restore hope where it is needed most.

2007 — 2020
LEADING SOULS TO CHRIST
During our 13 years of serving the homeless, The Ephraim Project had the privilege of praying with 146 individuals who made decisions for Christ, accepting Him as their Lord and Savior; we also guided 93 others to rededicate their lives to Him. We also distributed more than 4,000 bibles in the St. George parking lot as well as through our humanitarian relief containers.

2007 — 2020
DISPATCHING
HUMANITARIAN RELIEF
Looking abroad, The Ephraim Project shipped humanitarian containers to families in need in Kenya, Uganda, Haiti, Jamaica, Trinidad, and many other West Indies island nations. We sent pallets of nonperishable food, oil, rice, water, furniture, clothing, shoes, blankets, electronics, and hygiene supplies. After learning that teachers at a school in Cap-Haïen, Haiti, walked miles daily to reach their classrooms, we funded bicycles for every teacher at the school.

2007 — 2020
ESTABLISHING COMMUNITY GARDENS IN KENYA
The Ephraim Project, together with Emmanuel’s Kitchen, partnered with The Mamboleos—a dedicated husband-and-wife team formerly with CRU—to establish both private and community vegetable and fruit gardens in a once-barren Kenyan village.

2007 — 2020
HELPING
PERSECUTED CHRISTIANS
In partnership with Voice of the Martyrs, The Ephraim Project shipped a total of 90 Action Packs in 2018 and 2019 to aid displaced and persecuted Christians in Iraq, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Sudan. Each Action Pack included blankets, bedsheets, towels, face cloths, face soap, jackets, socks, t-shirts, gloves, and knit hats for men, women, and children.

2007 — 2020
LOVING OUR NEIGHBORS
The Ephraim Project had the privilege of coming alongside other believers to support their kingdom endeavors such as collecting and shipping hundreds of hand knitted caps, scarves, and gloves made by Disney VoluntEARS and Sadie Judge to aid City Life Baptist Church’s quest to help Native American tribes face brutal winters. We regularly supplied Orlando-based pregnancy centers with new and lightly used baby clothes, equipment, and other supplies young mothers need for their children. We helped build a Sunday School building in a remote part of Uganda and supplied it with chairs for the children and helped George and Susan Mamboleo construct a church in the same Kenyan village where we helped establish several community gardens.

BLESSING THE CHILDREN: MAKING A DIFFERENCE,
ONE CHILD AT A TIME.
In 2021, The Ephraim Project developed an arts and crafts program and, by 2022, introduced it to Blessing the Children International (BCI). This initiative was brought to BCI’s two academies, serving 2,500 students, in Debre Zeyit (Bishoftu), Ethiopia, a resort city located about an hour from Ethiopia’s capital, Addis Ababa. The program rolled out to nearly 400 BCI students, ranging from kindergartners to seniors.

BLESSING THE CHILDREN: TRANSFORMING LIVES
After launching the arts and crafts program, The Ephraim Project deepened its partnership with Blessing the Children International, focusing on 200 of the most vulnerable students—those who were deeply impoverished or orphaned. The project worked closely with BCI leadership and social workers to ensure each child was in a caring family environment, whether with a relative or a compassionate neighbor. We also worked alongside BCI to uplift and stabilize entire families and to ensure every child received a quality private education and had access to essential medical care.

NUMEN MINISTRIES INTERNATIONAL
From 2022 to 2025, The Ephraim Project also supported Numen International Ministry, a sister ministry of Blessing the Children International, by sponsoring 11 pastors and their families from its 70 full-time evangelical ministers—all former Muslims.

PRESENT DAY
FROM STREETS TO STARTUPS
In February 2026, The Ephraim Project joined forces with Pastor Hasset Yilma to launch God’s Love in Action—a transformative ministry that breaks the chains of poverty and exploitation for single mothers and grandmothers. By empowering them to escape the grip of prostitution, we restore hope and dignity, enabling them to provide for themselves and their children through sustainable microbusiness ownership.

PRESENT DAY
HOSTING WEEKLY
BIBLE STUDIES
Instead of survival sex, we offer these courageous women the life-changing love and hope of Jesus Christ. They receive unwavering spiritual and community support through weekly Bible studies, fostering lasting transformation and a renewed sense of belonging.

PRESENT DAY
EQUIPPING MICROENTERPRISES
We ignite their entrepreneurial spirit by helping them discover microbusiness opportunities that align with their unique passions and talents. By providing essential tools, training, and resources, we equip these women to launch thriving enterprises—enabling them to support their families with dignity, purpose, and hope for the future.

PRESENT DAY
MINI THINGS MADE
WITH BIG LOVE
Stateside, under the banner of Ella’s Place and the tagline “Little Things Made with Big Love,” The Ephraim Project crafts miniature three-dimensional dioramas (see photo). These are given as heartfelt gifts to family, friends, acquaintances, neighbors, and strangers, and are also auctioned to raise funds for free medical care for uninsured individuals and mission work in Honduras. Each diorama demonstrates how God transforms forgotten, discarded, and seemingly “useless” items into masterpieces—mirroring what Christ has accomplished for countless souls through Ephraim’s ministries over the years. For the project’s founder, creating these works is a form of art therapy, and she passes on its healing benefits by teaching other seniors to find comfort and joy through creative expression.

OUR IMPACT

God’s Love in Action is transforming some of Addis Ababa’s most challenging neighborhoods. Since our launch in February 2026, we have helped create seven thriving microbusinesses—and have 20 new startup enterprises in the pipeline!
-
One woman now runs a laundry business after we provided her with a washing machine, allowing her to offer much-needed laundry services to her neighborhood and nearby businesses.
-
Two others have launched successful injera-making businesses, bringing the taste of traditional flatbread to their communities.
-
Two more have opened bustling sidewalk cafés, where they brew rich coffee and create welcoming spaces for the community.
-
Another woman has set up a stand selling golden French fries—a beloved treat that draws a steady stream of customers each day.
In every case, God’s Love in Action has supplied the equipment, materials, training, and encouragement needed to transform dreams into sustainable businesses. Several women are not yet ready to own businesses but, with our support, have found gainful employment, enabling them to support themselves and their families.
In addition to these entrepreneurial and employment successes, several women have received essential medical care for themselves and for their children. In some cases, we have seen diseases reversed through proper treatment!
These women—and many others—are being uplifted through our thriving weekly Bible studies, where they experience the transformative power of Christ’s love. Hope and dignity are restored as families who once faced uncertainty now enjoy steady incomes, and their children can attend school with confidence.
Our ministry has drawn the attention of local government officials, who have recognized our efforts to empower women and uplift the community. God’s Love in Action is not just changing lives—it is sowing seeds of lasting transformation in Addis Ababa, one microbusiness at a time.
