You can help a single mother or grandmother living in the slums of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, start a microbusiness, offering them a dignified path out of poverty for their children and themselves. Your one-time donation of $500 can make a lasting impact by enabling and empowering these women to launch a microenterprise, such as:

  • Purchase a small washing machine and supplies to start a laundry business and offer services to local families and nearby businesses.

  • Buy ingredients and equipment to bake and sell injera (Ethiopian bread) and sell within their community.

  • Set up small stands/kiosks to brew and sell coffee, for which Ethiopia is world-renowned, as well as ancillary snack items.

  • Make and sell chips (French fries) throughout the day as an affordable street food for passersby.

  • Obtain materials to create and market beautiful traditional baskets and decorative and functional pottery for tourists and the Ethiopian community.

In addition to your one-time donation of $500 in startup capital, your ongoing support of $50 a month for 12 months substantially increases their chances of building a successful enterprise, one that will help the women gain financial independence, restore their dignity, and build a better future for themselves and their children.
